WHAT MAKES DOGS FAIL
|
|
There are multiple reasons why dogs fail a snakeproofing session.
Generally, they can be divided into three groups:
GROUP 1 : HANDLING ISSUES
Some dogs are difficult to handle and therefore introduce the training process.

GROUP 2: INAPPROPRIATE RESPONSE
Some dogs even when trained, dont have sufficient aversion to the snakes.

GROUP 3: RENEWAL RECOLLECTION
Some dogs recall arriving at the last session, refuse to be handled and therefore cannot be trained or tested.

Dogs that cannot be handled are the biggest cause f failure.
If a dog will not walk on leash, will not leave his mom or dad, or is so stressed out, then clearly we cannot train the dog.
Sometimes dogs display aggression towards us, or towards another dog.
Occasionally we are able to get your dog to relax, but sometimes even we cannot achieve that goal.
Some of the causes of this are:
|
-
Some dogs behave in an inappropriate manner when introduced to snakes.
-
They may attack the snakes, or show aggression towards the handlers.
-
Some dogs may bark at the snakes, and while not acceptible, and generally not failed as a result.
-
In some cases dogs will show retaliation when they recieve the nick from the e-collar.
-
We are looking for a flight response, and will do our best to train the dog to do so.
-
PLEASE NOTE: Dogs that display a hunting instinct towards the snakes, are often at EXTREME risk of being injured EVEN AFTER training.
|
-
A few dogs will recall past training sessions, and have an aversion to being prepared for training
-
Some may even resist walking on leash or getting out of the car
-
While this would clearly indicate an recall of the training, it may also indicate an association with the AREA or LEASH or COLLAR
-
Again, this is not really what we want to see, as the association SHOULD be with the snake (scent or sound).
-
We will do our best to train your dog, but sometimes they are are just too clever.
-
We have different training trails, snake enclosures and other tricks, but sometimes the dogs figure them out.
|
|
Firstly, there are many reasons dogs "fail". Some are easily fixed, others more difficult.
Rest assured we will do everything possible to ensure your dog is correctly trained, and gets a good result.
Depending on the reason your dog failed, we may:
-
Request you bring your dog for a "REDO" (There is no charge as long as it is done within 30 days)
-
Request you leave your dog for a few hours to calm down prior to training
-
Request you come back when the Training Director is present to supervise and or evaluate your dog
