This beautiful old boy was bitten on the face by a rattlensnake in March 2009.
His Mom sent this heartbreaking email out to all their friends at Rescue a Golden, and allowed us to share the pictures.
"We brought Carson home this evening.
He has major swelling of the face and still has the bloody fluid oozing from the puncture wounds (especially one of them).
Fortunately there isn’t swelling around the trachea. He is on mega doses of antibiotics and pain meds –
which are in pill form and are sort of tricky and time consuming to get down him.
He has been drinking water on his own (hooray).
We were told we would probably have to give him 60 oz. of water with a syringe but I don’t think that’s going to be necessary.
He is not the least bit interested in any type of food… that’s okay – eventually he will be.
He did water a bush when he got home, so his kidneys are working, and he has been sleeping on the cold hard tile floor all evening.
I fixed several quilts in the various rooms for him to have a softer place to crash…. But I guess the tile is what he wants.
I want to thank all of you for your kind thoughts and prayers – I don’t know what I’d do without family and friends like all of you. "
Carson is recovering from his wounds, but the emotional scars will stay with us for some time.
Thanks to Barbara for allowed us to share these images.
Thanks also to Judy Smith of RAG (Rescue a Golden) for her assistance.
